Dinosaur Hat

Round Knifty Knitter loom in the prefered size for your hat
Flower loom
Worsted weight yarn in white
Worsted weight yarn in color of choice
Poly-fil
2 black buttons

Hat
  1. Knit a basic roll brim hat following these instructions: Roll Brim Hat
  2. Rather than letting the brim roll, fold the brim up around 1 1/2 inches and use a yarn needle and thread to stitch the brim into place. Stitch from the inside of the hat, ensuring that the stitches tacking the brim into place are discreet.
Eyes
  1. Use the flower loom for each eye. Hold two white yarns together as one, begin with the draw string cast on.
  2. Knit them using the two over two stitch.
  3. After 12 rows, change colors to the same color yarn as used for the hat. Using the same 2 over 2 stitch, knit 8 more rows.
  4. Cut the working yarn to approximately 1 10 inches.
  5. Sew through each loop on the flower loom to cast off.
  6. Stuff the eye with Poly-fil.
  7. Pull the working yarn tight to close the top of the eye.
  8. Finish the eye by adding a black button.
Spikes
  1. You will be making 3 triangle shaped spikes to line up down the back of the hat. You can use the same color as the hat itself, or a contrasting color of your choice.
  2. Begin by wrapping only one. You will still be holding 2 yarns as one.
  3. Increase stitch by wrapping an extra peg on each side of the peg wrapped in the previous row.
  4. You will now have 1 peg with 2 loops on it and 2 pegs with only one loop. Knit on the peg that has 2 loops in the one over one fashion.
  5. Wrap the next row using an increase (wrap and extra peg on each side of the previous row.) Knit all the pegs that have 2 loops.
  6. Repeat step 5 until you have knit 11 rows.
  7. Crochet cast off.
  8. This is your first triangle. You will make 6 of them.
  9. Sew 2 of the triangles together along 2 edges by sewing through each set of loops around the perimeter. Leave one side of the triangle open. Stuff with Poly-fil.
  10. After stuffing, sew the open edge of the triangle to the hat using a yarn needle and thread. This is your first spike. Continue until you have 3 spikes down the back of the hat in a straight line.

Tote Bag for the Knifty Knitter Green Round Loom

Knifty Knitter Tote Bag

Skill level: Intermediate

Step 1: Using both yarns held together, e wrap the loom and knit 25 rows. Start and end the knitting at the peg on the side of the loom.

Step 2: Cut the end of the yarn you are wrapping with, leaving about 36", and thread it onto the yarn needle. Start to take the loops from the loom by threading through the loop on peg 1, then through the loop on peg 36, then the loop on peg 2, then the loop on peg 35. Continue back and forth in this method until you have taken all of the loops from the loom. Pull the yarn until the loops are woven together to make the bottom flat. Tie a knot in the yarn, and weave the ends into the piece.

Step 3: Single crochet around the top of the bag.

Step 4: Bag Handle: Holding both yarns together, wrap 4 pegs and knit back and forth for 134 rows, or 33". You may lengthen or shorten the handle if you wish.

Step 5: To make the clasp strap, wrap 4 pegs and knit for 15 rows.

Step 6: Using the cotton yarn, sew the handle to the sides of the bag at the fold sides. Sew the clasp to the middle of the back of the bag, and embellish with buttons, beads, or other accessories of your choice.

Matching Hat and Scarf

Knifty Knitter Matching Hat and Scarf
Instructions
1. Scarf: Using the blue round loom, start with a yellow strand and a blue strand and continue to knit 10 rows. Then switch to both strands being yellow for another 10 rows, doing the same with two blue strands for another 10 rows. Because the yarn is corrugated your colors will vary in shade. Finish with 19 sections of color (19 sections of 10 rows a piece). This leaves you with a very thick tube scarf. For something a little less stiff use only one strand of yarn. Add fringe to the ends to give it a little more character or sew the ends together to close off the opening!

2.
Double-sided hat: The key to making a double-sided hat is to make sure that you have the same amount of rows on both sides so that the designs do not overlap or show on the wrong side. Using the green loom, start by doing one strand of each color on one side. This consisted of 40 rows. Then begin the other side of the hat with two strands of yellow, which consisted of 10 rows. Switching to two strands of blue and knit 8 rows. Then switch to yellow, making 7 rows, and again blue with 8 rows. Finish with yellow making 7 rows. To close the hat off, used a blue strand of blue yarn to leave a fun little ring on the top of the hat. Note that this is a very big hat. It will be necessary to decide how many rows you will need to make a hat your size. Something else to keep in mind is that the color you finish with on your loom will become the top of your hat and NOT the rim. If you end up making the hat too large just roll it and have a brim! Enjoy!!!

Magic Fun Fur Scarf

Knifty Knitter Magic Fun Fur Scarf
Photos of the Magic Scarf
Knifty Knitter Magic Fun Fur Scarf
Original Magic Scarf Pattern

This scarf was originally published in the Provo Craft instructional pamphlets with the Knifty Knitter green round loom. The pattern can also be made with the Boye or Darice brand orange round loom that is exactly the same size and has 36 pegs too. If you have the Readaeer round loom set, use the pink loom.

If you want a larger scarf, try using the Boye or Darice purple round loom. This one is called the extra large round loom. You can also substitute the Readaeer green loom.

The scarf is made with eyelash or fun fur yarn that gives it a fuzzy fun finish that any girl will love. I like to make them as Christmas gifts for the young ladies in my family.

What you will need:

Round Loom

3 skeins of Fun Fur
Crochet hook size K

Instructions:
1. Knit scarf using one strand of eyelash yarn (Fun Fur works great).
2. Knit around loom until scarf reaches desired length. (Make sure you leave about 7 yards on skein to finish scarf.)
3. Pull loop off the first peg onto a size K crochet hook. Chain two. Pull loop off 2nd peg. (You should now have two loops on your crochet hook.)
4. Keeping stitches VERY loose, single crochet (wrap yarn and pull through first loop, then wrap yarn and pull through both loops). Chain one.
5. Pull a loop off the next peg. Single crochet and chain one.
6. Continue around (single crochet, chain one) until all pegs are cleared.

7. Connect to the beginning of row with a secure knot. Cut end, leaving one inch.
This versatile scarf is easy to make on the Knifty Knitter and can be worn a variety of ways. Reach inside the scarf and it will stretch to several times its original size. Now it can be worn as a hood, cowl, or shawl.

Flat Top Hat Pattern

The flat top hat is flat at the top because it's finished with a horizontal seam, rather than gathered. This pattern is knitted with 2 yarns as if they are one. You can use fun fur for one of the yarns if you wish. For a small woman's hat the green round loom is used. If you like a larger hat, use the purple hat loom, or the extra large yellow loom.

  1. Knit 20 rows.
  2. Make a brim by pulling the first row up through the center of the loom. Put the loops back on the pegs. Knit.
(Now you have a double thickness brim.)
  3. Knit 20 more rows.
  4. Crochet cast off.
  5. Turn the hat inside out. Whip stitch the top closed as a flat seam, or crochet it closed as a flat seam, whichever you prefer.
  6. Tie off the yarn.
  7. Turn the hat right side out.

Basic Knifty Knitter Hat on the Round Green Loom

This is a basic hat done on the round (large) green loom. It is the perfect size for my 12-year-old son. It also happens to fit me well. I am a small adult. If I were making this hat for a larger adult, I would move up to the XL yellow round loom to make the hat.

The hat is knitted brim to top. In other words, knitting begins at the bottom of the hat and ends at the top. The drawstring cast off, A.K.A. bind off, is used to close the top of the hat.

Supplies for the basic hat with brim knitted on the Knifty Knitter green round loom.
The hat in this tutorial was knitted using two strands of Red Heart Super Saver yarn as if they were one strand of yarn. The yarn color used is "fleck," which is a dark green with flecks of various colors mixed into the yarn. The pattern is from the book, "Knitting with the Knifty Knitter Booklet II," published by Provo Craft.

Instructions:
Step 1: Cast on and knit 16 rows.
Step 2: Make a brim by reaching through the center of the loom and pulling the first row up. Place each loop from row 1 onto the loom. There should be two loops on each peg of the Knifty Knitter loom now. Knit off.
Step 3: Knit 18 more rows.
Step 4: Cut the working yarn approximately 2 feet from the loom.
Step 5: Cast off by sewing through each loop and lifting it off the peg. Work in the same direction you were knitting. Prepare the working yarn to sew through the loops by threading it through a yarn needle.
Step 6: When all loops have been removed from the loom, pull the working yarn tightly to cinch closed the top of the hat.
Step 7: Tie a square knot. Leave a 5 inch tail and sew the tail into the inside of the hat.
