Braided Scarf for the Knifty Knitter Spool Loom

Barbie loomed this version of the braided scarf pattern in blue and white hues. What a fun scarf.

Provo Craft Tools

This pattern was originally designed by Alicia Underwood and published on the Provo Craft website.

Other Supplies

  • 3 or 4 different skeins of yarn (your choice of color/style; use the Fun Fur, the regular knitting worsted yarn, or any other yarn)

Skill level: Beginner

Note: This is an easy project, and although it takes some time to make the tubes, it's worth it. To make the project go a little quicker, try using only 3 tubes instead of 5 for a scarf that isn't as bulky around the neck.

Step 1: Using the Spool Loom (the end with 5 pegs) and one strand of yarn, knit 5 tubes, each between 50" and 56" long. It is best if they are each different lengths.

Step 2: Hook the 5 tubes together as shown in the diagram (SEE DIAGRAM) and then braid them together. Then sew the tubes together using the yarn needle to ensure that they won't come undone.

Step 3: Using the Knifty Knitter Pom-Pom and Tassel Maker, put pom-poms on both ends of each tube. (The Fun Fur tube in this picture doesn't have pom-poms because Fun Fur doesn't make good pom-poms.)

Original design by Alicia Underwood.

Knifty Knitter Tassel Shawl

Provo Craft Tools

Other Supplies

  • 2 skeins of Lion Brand Yarn - Color Waves (Mai Tai)
  • 2 skeins of Lion Brand Yarn - Micro Spun (Mocha)
Skill level: Advanced
Step 1: Hold one strand of each yarn together (treating them as one strand) to knit project.

Step 2: Using the yellow long loom, e wrap every other peg until you have gone all the way around the loom. You will be knitting on these pegs for the entire project.

Step 3: Put the second row of stitches on and knit to the end. Wind the yarn back 3 stitches and knit these (this will hold the yarn so it does not come undone). Now take the turning peg loop and put it on the peg next to the end peg. Knit the bottom loop over it. This is the decrease stitch.
Note: The pattern is knit in a slant by decreasing on one side and adding a stitch on the other side.

Step 4: Wrap the rest of the row. When you have returned to the beginning end, wrap the last stitch and skip the next peg. Turn around the peg that was deleted at the first of the row. This is the increase stitch.

Step 5: Continue knitting, decreasing on the one end and increasing on the other, for 45 rows. Place a marker here on both ends. You can use knitting stitch markers or safety pins, or tie a piece of contrasting yarn.

Step 6: Knit even on the stitches for 22 rows. Put markers on both of these ends.

Step 7: Starting on row 23, knit the first 3 stitches and decrease the first stitch. Knit to the end of this row, and wrap and add onto the peg that you decreased off at the beginning of row. Continue knitting, increasing and decreasing, for 45 rows.

Step 8: Take the project from the loom by using a crochet hook and single crocheting the loops
from the pegs.

Step 9: Make 6 tassels using the Pom-Pom Maker. Place the pegs in the two holes that are the farthest apart. Wrap the pegs 20 times using the Micro Spun yarn. Tie the tassel and sew to the 6 x marks on the diagram.

(See Purl Stitch on the Knifty Knitter page at www.ProvoCraft.com for step-by-step instructions with images.)

Instructions:
Bunny Bag for the Blue Round Loom1. Purse Body: For this project, take the end of each of the two yarns and e wrap the blue round loom with them as if they were a single strand of yarn. Knit in a spiral until you have 8" of tube knitting on the loom. End with only one loop on each peg.
2.  Cut the yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail. Thread on a needle and pull through the loops on the pegs.
3.  Take the loops off the pegs. Pull the yarn tail tight. This will gather all the stitches to make the bottom of the bag. Do a couple of slip stitches in the bottom to tie off.
4. Ears: Wrap the yarn on 5 pegs and work back and forth, using these five pegs until you have knitted 7 inches.
5. Remove in the same method as the purse. Tie off. The top of the ears will be the tied-off end. -- Make 2 of these.
6. Handle: Use the same method, but only 3 pegs.
7. Work back and forth on these 3 pegs until you have 12 inches for short handle or 48 inches for long handle (remember that the handle may stretch, so you can make it a little shorter).
8. Sewing the parts together: Laying the purse flat, pin one side of the handle to the left inside top of the bag.
9. Pin the other side to the right inside top of bag.
10. Using only the Baby Cloud yarn, thread the needle and sew handle ends in place.
11. Place each ear next to the front of each handle; pin and sew in place.
12. Thread the ribbon on the needle and sew 1 inch from the top, starting in the center front and sewing completely around the bag.
13. This makes a draw-string effect to close the purse.
14. Pom-poms: Using the Knifty Knitter Pom-pom maker, you can choose the size you would like for the nose and the cheeks.
15. Glue the cheeks on using the glue gun and placing them close together. Glue the pink pom-pom in the middle of the cheek pom-poms.

Knifty Knitter Bunny Purse

Joan Toczek knitted this adorable bunny tote and photographed her beautiful granddaughter holding it. She embroidered the eyes and made the teeth of folded over ribbon. She used pom poms for the cheeks and nose. Joan says that in a larger size, these would make great bags to carry Easter eggs for an egg hunt.

Golf Club Covers for the Blue Round Knifty Knitter Loom

This pattern is for golf club covers, a unique gift for your favorite golfer. You'll be using the e-wrap and any worsted weight yarn. You can change the yarn colors to create stripes as you knit.

  1. E-wrap the loom and knit until the length measures 4 inches.
  2. Pull the first row up to the pegs and place it back on the loom.
  3. Knit. This creates a cuff.
  4. E-wrap and knit for 5 1/2 more inches.
  5. To make a stripe, change to white yarn and knit for 5 rows.
  6. Change back to the original color and knit for 5 rows.
  7. Change to white again and knit for 5 rows.
  8. Change to the original color and knit 5 more inches.
  9. Use the gathered stitch to remove the work from the loom. To do this cut the working yarn to a length of 10 inches. Thread it through a yarn needle. Starting with the peg closest to the working yarn, thread it through each loop as you pull the loop off each peg. Continue

working around the loom in this manner until you have all the loops removed. Pull the
working yarn tight to gather the knit. Tie off the working yarn in a double knot and cut it to a few inches. Use the yarn needle to sew the remaining yarn tail into the under side of the golf club cover.
  10.  The gathered edge is the top of the golf club cover and you can add a pom pom if desired.
Note: As an alternative method of casting off you may cut a separate piece of yarn and passed it through the stitches as they are removed from the loom. Then square knot each end of this yarn on the inside of the cover.

For those of you that haven't made pom poms before, here is a tutorial for making them on the Knifty Knitter pom pom maker. You can use these methods without a pom pom maker by stretching them across a small loom. The pom pom maker just makes it a little easier.
